Gas or oil heating — which is better in Cork?

Short answer

If the gas network passes your house, gas is usually the more convenient choice — no tank, no deliveries and a smaller boiler. Oil is the norm off the network. Fuel prices move, so neither is always cheaper. If you are replacing either, it is worth pricing a heat pump too.

What changes the answer

  • whether gas is available on your road
  • the cost of a new gas connection
  • condition and position of an existing oil tank
  • whether you would consider a heat pump

What you can check yourself

  • check gas availability with Gas Networks Ireland
  • look at the age and condition of the oil tank and bund

What to do next

Ask us to price the options for your house — gas, oil or a heat pump.
