Heat pumps
Heat pump installation for Cork homes, designed around your property.
A heat pump works well when it is sized for the heat the house actually loses, and when the radiators or floor can deliver heat at a lower water temperature. We do the heat loss calculation, tell you honestly whether the house is ready, and help you with the SEAI grant paperwork.
SEAI grant of up to €14,500 for houses and €11,500 for apartments (amounts as at October 2026).
In short
C. Kenneally designs and installs air-to-water heat pumps for Cork homes. We start with a heat loss calculation, tell you honestly whether the house is ready, and help you with the SEAI grant paperwork. The SEAI grant is up to €14,500 for a house and €11,500 for an apartment (October 2026 figures), and you must have approval before any work starts.

Five quick questions — house type, year built, how it is heated now — and you get the SEAI grants your home is likely to qualify for, and what has to happen first.
What you can claim
The SEAI heat pump grant, broken down.
Maximum amounts from SEAI, checked October 2026. Homes must be built and occupied before 2021 and have an MPRN. Homes built before 2007 need a Technical Assessment (SEAI pays €200) unless a BER shows a Heat Loss Indicator of 2.3 or less. Apply and get approval before any work starts. SEAI confirms your actual grant.
How it works, step by step
- Survey. We look at the house, the insulation, the radiators and where the outdoor unit and cylinder can go.
- Technical Assessment. Homes built before 2007 need one before the grant can be approved, unless a BER already shows the house is efficient enough. SEAI contributes €200 towards it.
- Grant application. You apply to SEAI before any work starts. We give you everything you need for it.
- Design and install. Heat pump, cylinder, controls, and any radiator upgrades the design calls for.
- Commissioning and BER. The system is commissioned, a post-works BER is done, and SEAI pays the grant.
Is my house ready?
A heat pump needs a reasonably well-insulated house. If the attic, walls or windows need work first, we will say so — a heat pump fitted to a poorly insulated house can cost more to run than the oil boiler it replaced. The Technical Assessment exists to answer exactly this question.
What the grant is made of
- Up to €10,500 towards the heat pump itself.
- Up to €2,000 towards central heating upgrades such as radiators or underfloor heating.
- Up to €2,000 boiler scrappage support when you replace an oil, gas or other fossil-fuel boiler with the heat pump (new from 6 October 2026).
- Up to €14,500 in total for detached, semi-detached and terraced houses; up to €11,500 for apartments.
Grant amounts and conditions are set by SEAI and can change. Check the current figures at seai.ie before you commit. Grant-funded work has to be done by an SEAI registered contractor.
How it works
From first call to grant paid.
- 01
Home survey
Insulation, radiators, where the unit and cylinder can go. A separate SEAI Technical Assessment is arranged if your home needs one.
- 02
Grant application
You apply to SEAI in your name; we give you everything you need and check it before you send it.
- 03
Approval, then install
Nothing starts until SEAI approves. Then Christy designs and installs the system.
- 04
BER and payment
A registered BER assessor does the post-works BER and SEAI pays the grant.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Will a heat pump heat an old house?
It can, if the heat loss is brought down and the emitters are sized for it. Some older houses need insulation and larger radiators first. We would rather tell you that than fit something that does not work.
Can I keep my oil boiler as a backup?
Generally the grant expects the heat pump to be the main heating system, and the €2,000 boiler scrappage support only applies if the old boiler is removed. Ask us about your specific case.
Is it noisy?
Modern units are quiet, but placement matters. We site the outdoor unit away from bedroom windows and neighbours where we can.
Book a service or request a quote.
Book a service or ask for a price online, and attach a photo of the boiler, the leak or the job. Christy replies with a fixed price or a time to call, and nothing starts until you have agreed it.
