SEAI grants

SEAI heating grants explained: eligibility, amounts and the steps involved.

SEAI grants can pay for a large part of a heat pump and for better heating controls. The rules are not complicated, but the order matters — apply and get approval before any work starts, and use an SEAI registered contractor.

Amounts as at October 2026. SEAI sets and changes them — check seai.ie for the current figures before committing.

€14,500 Max for a house
€11,500 Max for an apartment
€2,000 Boiler scrappage (from 6 Oct 2026)
€700 Heating controls grant

In short

SEAI grants can pay up to €14,500 towards a heat pump for a house (€11,500 for an apartment) and €700 towards heating controls in homes built and occupied before 2011 (October 2026 figures). Apply and get SEAI approval before any work starts, and use an SEAI registered contractor. Christy is SEAI registered and gives you everything you need for the application.

Who qualifies

Four things that decide your eligibility.

01

Built and occupied before 2021

For the heat pump grant. New builds do not qualify.

02

An MPRN

The 11-digit number on your electricity bill.

03

Technical Assessment or self-declaration

Homes built before 2007 need an assessment unless a BER shows a Heat Loss Indicator of 2.3 or less. SEAI pays €200 towards it.

An SEAI registered contractor

Christy is SEAI registered, and the work and paperwork have to meet the scheme rules.

Our approach

What we do, and what we do not.

We handle

Heat pumps, heating upgrades and controls, and the grant paperwork that goes with them.

SEAI also funds

Insulation, solar PV and other upgrades, done by other registered contractors. Insulation often comes first.

Do not start early

Work started before your grant is approved can lose the grant. We will not start until it is.

What you can claim

The SEAI heat pump grant, broken down.

€10,500Towards the heat pump itself
€2,000Central heating upgrades — radiators, pipework or underfloor
€2,000Boiler scrappage — replacing an oil, gas or other fossil-fuel boiler (from 6 Oct 2026)
€14,500Maximum for a house (€11,500 for an apartment)

Maximum amounts from SEAI, checked October 2026. Homes must be built and occupied before 2021 and have an MPRN. Homes built before 2007 need a Technical Assessment (SEAI pays €200) unless a BER shows a Heat Loss Indicator of 2.3 or less. Apply and get approval before any work starts. SEAI confirms your actual grant.

Heat pump grant

  • Up to €14,500 for detached, semi-detached, end-of-terrace and mid-terrace houses.
  • Up to €11,500 for apartments.
  • Made up of up to €10,500 for the heat pump, up to €2,000 for heating upgrades such as radiators, and up to €2,000 boiler scrappage support when a fossil-fuel boiler is replaced (from 6 October 2026).
  • Air-to-air heat pumps: up to €9,500. Replacing an existing heat pump: up to €6,500 (€4,500 for apartments), without the scrappage or heating upgrade parts.
  • Homes built before 2007 need a Technical Assessment first, unless a BER shows the heat loss is already low enough. SEAI pays €200 towards it.

Heating controls grant

  • €700, whatever the house type.
  • Homes built and occupied before 2011.
  • Done by an SEAI registered contractor, with a BER after the work.
  • Not available alongside the heat pump grant.

What is not grant-aided

As far as SEAI grants stand in October 2026, a straight gas or oil boiler replacement does not get a grant. If you are replacing an oil boiler anyway, it is worth comparing the cost of a heat pump after the grant.

The order things happen in

  • Check your house qualifies.
  • Technical Assessment, if your house needs one.
  • Apply to SEAI and get approval.
  • Work is done by an SEAI registered contractor.
  • Post-works BER and paperwork submitted.
  • SEAI pays the grant.
