Do heating controls really save money?
Short answer
Usually, yes. Heating only the zones you use, at the times you use them, saves fuel in most homes. SEAI offers a €700 heating controls grant for homes built and occupied before 2011.
What changes the answer
- whether your house already has separate zones
- how many people are home during the day
- insulation level
What you can check yourself
- check whether upstairs and downstairs can be timed separately
- check whether radiators have thermostatic valves
What to do next
If the house qualifies for the grant, apply before any work starts. It cannot be combined with the heat pump grant, so if a heat pump is planned, talk to us first.
