Fully qualified, the traditional way

Christy served a full four-year plumbing apprenticeship and holds the National Craft Certificate in Plumbing, the complete Irish trade qualification. His apprenticeship combined years on site with formal training and exams, and the qualification covers the whole trade (today's equivalent is the QQI Advanced Certificate – Craft):

  • hot and cold water systems;
  • copper, plastic and steel pipework;
  • central heating design and commissioning;
  • oil and gas heating;
  • sanitaryware and drainage;
  • the regulations that sit behind all of it.

He learned the trade on site, fitting pipework, cylinders, boilers, radiators and bathrooms house after house. It taught him to work efficiently without cutting corners, and to get it right first time.

Experience across every kind of building

Domestic. Boiler servicing, repairs and replacements; full central heating systems; heat pumps and underfloor heating; complete bathroom refits; leaks, pumps, cylinders and showers. Most of the work is in family homes and rental properties across Cork City and the surrounding area.

Commercial. Working with shopfitting contractors, Christy has carried out gas and plumbing installations in major retail stores, including Harvey Norman and Homestore + More. He also works in shops, offices, restaurants and other business premises, scheduled around their opening hours.

Industrial and institutional. Planned and reactive maintenance in hospitals, hotels and factories: plant rooms, commercial boilers and calorifiers, booster pumps, commercial gas, and the paperwork and safety systems that come with sites like those.

That breadth is why a boiler replacement or a bathroom in your home is completed to a commercial standard.

Keeping pace with modern heating

Heating in Ireland has changed a great deal in recent years, and Christy has kept pace with it:

  • a Registered Gas Installer for domestic and non-domestic gas;
  • OFTEC registered for oil;
  • an SEAI registered contractor, so customers can claim heat pump and heating controls grants;
  • an installer of air-to-water heat pumps, fitting them himself.

Whether it is a gas combi, an oil boiler in a farmhouse or a heat pump in a retrofit, the advice is about what suits the house, not what is easiest to sell.

A family business, built to last

When you choose a heating engineer, you want to know they will still be there for the next service, the next breakdown and the next upgrade. That is the thinking behind how C. Kenneally is built.

C. Kenneally is a family business in the real sense. Christy's wife Alisha runs the office, the diary and the accounts. Their son Jacob is serving his apprenticeship with a view to carrying the business on, and qualified plumbers Ryan Kenneally (Christy's nephew), George Murphy, Kevin O'Sullivan and Vito Sajko carry out the work. Your system's history stays with the people who know it, year after year.

Christy still prices every job, stays involved from start to finish, and signs off the work before it is handed over.

Meet the team

What he enjoys most

Finding the fault other people missed. A boiler that keeps locking out, a radiator that never heats, a leak nobody can trace: Christy likes working out why, fixing it properly, and explaining it so it does not happen again. He takes particular satisfaction in getting a family's heating working properly again.

What customers can count on

  • He arrives when he says he will, and calls ahead if he is delayed.
  • Honest advice, even when it is “this is not worth repairing” or “you do not need a new boiler yet”.
  • A fixed price agreed before any work starts.
  • Dust sheets down, shoe covers on, and the place left as tidy as he found it.
  • The paperwork completed and sent to you: certificates, service records and warranty registration.

Qualifications and registrations

  • National Craft Certificate in Plumbing: full four-year apprenticeship.
  • Registered Gas Installer (RGI): domestic and non-domestic gas work, with a Declaration of Conformance on every gas installation.
  • OFTEC registered: oil boiler servicing, commissioning and installation.
  • SEAI registered contractor: so your heat pump and heating controls grants can be paid.
  • Public liability insured.
