- Visual check of the boiler, flue and terminal, and the ventilation around the appliance.
- Flue gas analysis — the combustion reading that shows the boiler is burning safely and efficiently.
- Gas rate and burner pressure checked against the manufacturer's figures.
- Burner, heat exchanger and condensate trap inspected and cleaned where the manufacturer requires.
- Seals, safety devices and controls tested.
- System pressure, expansion vessel and pressure relief checked.
- A written service record, and a note of anything that needs attention later.
What an oil boiler service includes
- Burner stripped and cleaned, nozzle and filter replaced.
- Combustion test with a printed or recorded result.
- Heat exchanger and baffles cleaned, seals checked.

Why annually
Gas Networks Ireland recommends gas appliances are serviced every year in line with the manufacturer's instructions, and most manufacturer warranties require it. For oil, an annual service is standard practice — an oil burner that is not serviced soots up, wastes oil and eventually locks out, often in the coldest week of the year.

How long does a service take?
Usually about an hour for gas and a little longer for oil. Longer if the boiler has not been serviced in a few years.
Do I need to be there?
Someone over 18 needs to let us in and be there at the end so we can go through the record with them.
What if you find a problem?
We tell you what it is, what it costs to fix, and whether it is urgent. If anything is unsafe we make it safe there and then and explain why.
