Boilers · Homeowner answer
How long does a boiler last?
Usually around 10 to 15 years with annual servicing. Boilers that are never serviced, or that run on a sludged system without a filter, often fail sooner.
What changes the answer
- servicing history
- water quality and sludge in the system
- whether a magnetic filter is fitted
- make and model
What you can check yourself
- find the installation date
- check for a magnetic filter under the boiler
What to do next
If yours is past 12 years and starting to give trouble, get a replacement price before the next breakdown rather than during it.
